Elegy to Appendixes

A short, graphic poem about having an appendix removed.

9 lines

Gutted. Gushing. Grangrenous
The skin pried back,
a gloved fist in the hot, red, dark,
like a vulture buried in a steaming carcass
It tears free with a gurgling, sucking pop
And the fire gnawing at my side
Becomes a hollow numbness

So I ask myself:
What should I cut next?
